This report represents a clinical study of 220 cases of hepatoma which were diagnosed at the Dept. of Surgery of S.N.U.H. from Aug.I960 to July-1975. The results obtained are as follows;
1) The peak incidence of age is the 6th decade and the ratio of male to female is 4 to 12. The most frequent duration of illness before admission is within 2 months and hepatoma associated liver cirrhosis in past history is 32%.
3) The prominent symptoms and signs are hepatomegaly (94%), abdominal pain (55%), indigestion (379), weight loss (27%), and fever (22%)
4) In laboratory data, the elevation of alkaline phosphatase is noted in 67%, the elevation of SGOT in 50%, positive alpha fetoprotein in 50%, positive Australia antigen in 24% and S.O.L. in liver scan in 82%.
5) In pathologic diagnosis primary liver cancer is 198 cases,metastatic liver cancer 20 cases, and hemangioma 2 cases.
6) As method of treatment hepatectomy underwent in 15 cases, ligation of hepatic artery, 3 cases, and systemic chemotherapy with 5 FU, 12 cases, continuous hepatic artery infusion therapy, 8 cases.
7) Postoperative mortality of hepatectomy is 2 ¢¥cases and survival cases over 5-years in hepatectomy are 2 cases.
8) The result of chemotherapy revealed that symptoms improved in I case of systemic chemotherapy group and 3 cases of arterial infusion chemotherapy group. A case of arterial infusion chemotherapy survives over 2 years.
